Mini-skirt? Hot pants? New names for old ideas? Sometimes that’s what makes a designer famous. Your fashion maven’s letter Q designer is one of several possible originators of the mini-skirt. Sometimes hot pants are also attributed to her. Her love of the Mini Cooper gives added weight to the claim, that she at least had a hand in naming the short skirt trend. “The mini car went exactly with the miniskirt; it did everything one wanted, it looked great, it was optimistic, exuberant, young, flirty, it was exactly right,” said Quant in the documentary Mary Quant, Mini Cooper, Miniskirt.
Her “banana split” mini design was one of ten design classics in a series of British postal stamps that also include a Mini Cooper.
Take a look at more of her designs for the sexually liberated woman. Something for which Selina Shirley is also known.
For those who do not know who the Fashion Maven speaks of when she mentions the revered name of Selina Shirley. She is the latest bright star at the House of Shirley established long ago, far in the future on the Federation planet, Tallav. Her love story has been published in Maon: Marshal of Tallav.
