It all started with a dream…

The inspiration for the stories I write comes in many ways. Shane: Marshal of Tallav, my first romance novel, was born of an ongoing waking dream I’d start playing in my head any time insomnia struck. The second and third books in that series came from a desire to tell the love stories of characters in Shane. Maon had already found the love of his life. He was the opposite of Shane, a typical house husband from the matriarchal planet of Tallav. On the surface. Underneath, there was much more going on. Maon: Marshal of Tallav is his love story.

I’m currently writing Randolph’s story. That’s taking a lot of digging to find out what makes him tick, especially since he’s a sexual sadist. How did that come about? Rand has lots of scrumptious inner struggles pushed to the fore by unexpected events.

The novella I’ve just finished revising was inspired by a prompt in the Kink in Ink writing even in the Goodreads BDSM Group. Members posted an image and wrote a prompt, including what they hoped the story might include. I began the story that became It Takes a Cat Burglar, but set it aside when it began to deviate from the prompt too radically. I made another attempt and posted “The Key” to the group. It’s currently available as a free download to anyone who subscribes to my newsletter.

The novella I’m working on for the Cosmic Love Cabaret anthology with the SFR Shooting Stars pulls in a character from Shane, Adrianna’s mentor at the Opio Institute. Master Trey isn’t looking for love. Which is probably why I needed to write a story just for him. This is a shorty that has a happy-for-now ending. A novel just for him is a possibility to turn that happy-for-now into a happily-ever-after. He’ll have to suffer before he arrives. That’s a given.

Sons of Tallav Series

Shane: Marshal of TallavShane: Marshal of Tallav

Shane Tiernan, the Beast of Tallavan aristocratic society, needs relief from the matriarchal rules that are destroying his life. His hope lies in a female submissive, newly graduated from a top sex school. From her resume, she seems perfect. Profile and real life collide when he arrives to collect her. He’s stunned when he spots her vaulting over a bar and snatching up an ice chipper to defend herself against the giant who is chasing her. Her combination of warrior spirit and long-limbed curves fires his Dom imagination and the desire to bind her in his rope and have her under his complete control.

Adrianna Pacquin is sexually submissive, but don’t cross her outside the bedroom. She’s escaped the crime lord who plans to marry her once before. When it becomes clear he’s still after her, she doesn’t intend to get caught. A fortuitous decision to accept the contract of Tallavan Marshal Shane Tiernan promises safety until an attempt to murder him sets the pair on an investigation that will require complete trust in one another. With danger stalking their every step, the secrets they both hide could implode their blooming relationship and leave them exposed to their relentless foe.

Rand: Sons of Tallav – Work in progress

Randolph Meryon is a man no woman can resist despite the whip and title of sadist he brandishes. A pariah on his home planet of Tallav, he created a new life on Beta Tau, opening a kink club, The Whip Hand. The club is wildly successful, making him the most well-known and richest sadist in the sector. Old scandal comes roaring back into his life when his sister dies and he’s compelled to return to Tallav where his mother expects him to become guardian to his niece.

Jen Claymore, reeling from the consequences of her own, more recent disgrace, must find employment. But shunned by the Claymore family, her attempt to find work without their backing meets barriers on all sides. A position as nanny with the scandal riddled Meryon family seems like a lifeline. She’s relieved until she arrives at Briarcliff and becomes further and further enmeshed in a web of intrigue, unable to discern the identity of the spider at the center.

Then a second murder happens, and the first is discovered.

It Takes a Cat Burglar

When Darcelle Lebeau throws off the invisible chains that keep her bound to her family, she discovers a new vocation. Tempted to enter the illegal playground of a man she nicknames Matou, she becomes a cat burglar in training. Deeply ensnared with each task he entices her to fulfill, she fails to discover his identity and true intentions.

Sebastian St. Croix, a wealthy businessman, has a dark side. He’s a thief, a cat burglar who steals art and historical objects. For one year, he trains Darcelle to become his assistant, remaining incognito, observing her from afar. His admiration grows along with his desire for her with every phase-one challenge she completes. Phase two will test the limits of his control. Hands-on personal training? Yes. Sex? No. With his sister’s happiness at stake, nothing, not even the tempting Darcelle Lebeau, can interfere with accomplishing the biggest break-in of his career.

Release date: May 2017

This is my first non-BDSM title.

Educated by the Master (tentative title)

Trey Johannsen’s preference is to stick to managing a private BDSM club on Beta Tau. His boss insists he’s perfect for assisting his latest hire, Patsy O’Shaughnessy, develop a BDSM cabaret styled on the L.S. Quantum’s Cosmic Love Cabaret. The goal is an accurate but entertaining portrayal of the BDSM lifestyle. Trey is nonplussed. How the hell do you make burlesque accurate?

When Patsy O’Shaughnessy first lays eyes on BDSM master Trey Johannsen everything about him impresses her. Providing him a personal tour of the on stage and behind-the-scenes workings of the Cosmic Love Cabaret isn’t a problem. Withstanding the sheer sexiness of the ultra-masculine hunk while he educates her on the nuances of BDSM? That’s going to take some doing. Not that she plans to suggest hands-on training. No, the move from stage manager at the Cosmic Love Cabaret to creative director for a new venue is something she can’t blow. But if Trey Johannsen thinks experience is the best teacher, who is she to disagree?

SciFi Romance World Building in Maon: Marshal of Tallav

Welcome to the SFR Brigade Showcase. This excerpt is exclusively posted for the Science Fiction Romance Brigade Showcase. Visit the other authors participating in the Showcase.

I’m sharing an excerpt that highlights the world building found in Maon: Marshal of Tallav. This scene is set on the space station that services Beta Tau, a pleasure planet in the Federation. I hope you get a sense of the immense size of a station that is itself a microdot in the universe. Let me know what you think in the comments below. Read more about the Federation planets and the futuristic tech found in the Sons of Tallav series.

Excerpt:

Maon’s feet ached from a day spent walking the concourse ring of the private passenger level of the space station. He calculated that he’d trudged a grand total of twelve miles the nine times he walked the circle. His focus had been on scrutinizing the docking ports of the various private ships and the people he met.

From vidscreens along the outer wall of the ring, he could observe the ships berthed at this level and those that were coming and going from the station. Simulated picture windows, they looked out on space from one of the largest hyperspace facilities in the sector. One even brought the hyperpulse point into view. Although the scene would have been the same from a vidscreen down world, it was unnerving to place your hand against the wall and know that on the other side lay the vacuum of space. It was unsettling to realize you were an infinitesimal heartbeat in an elongated tin can that orbited one of hundreds of inhabitable planets in an arm of an unexceptional galaxy in a teeming universe.

At least this level was quiet compared to the many public passenger levels above that serviced the larger liners that brought the bulk of Beta Tau’s tourists to the planet. Patrolling a passenger level was far better than walking the concourse ring on the loading level below. There the chilly air settled into your bones. The scrubbers never seemed to rid it of the noxious smell of C-trol and other fumes. Yeah, walking the private passenger level was much nicer duty. When he got the message the operation was concluded, he headed straight for the lifts to take him to the shuttle docks at the bottom of the station.

Poor Maon. He’s headed straight for the black moment in the book.

Adrianna’s First Tallavan St. Patrick’s Day

Adrianna, thanks for stopping by the blog. Shane: Marshal of Tallav readers want to know what your first St. Patrick’s Day on Tallav was like. Tallavans have taken on Irish customs from the very beginning of the planet’s settlement. What kinds of things do they do to celebrate?

Adrianna: It amazes me that no matter where you go in the Federation, you’ll find people who claim Irish ancestry and lots of folks who don’t that love to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Tallav takes the day very seriously, but with some unique twists.

Tallav was founded as a matriarchal planet, and despite the Great Catholic Reawakening that brought many Tallavans back into the Reformed Catholic fold, the majority of Tallavans prefer not to celebrate a Catholic saint. Too patriarchal. But with people the Federation over celebrating this particular Irish holiday, they had to do something.

Their celebrations revolve around the Fae who serve the  Mother Goddess by bringing Spring. Tallav is blessed by a similar calendar to old earth, so the holiday comes at the right time of the year for this. Gifts are left for the Fae the night before. Local priestesses of the Mother Goddess go from house to house blessing each home and anyone who wishes to be personally blessed.

Of course, the wearing of the green is part of the celebration for both those who practice the Mother Goddess rituals and the Reformed Catholics who pursue a more traditional St. Patrick’s Day. Both groups also spend time at the local pub, drinking Guinness (brewed on Tallav), singing, and dancing.

In Cahernamon there’s a big Irish Dance Festival with groups from all over Tallav competing in a step-dancing competition.

What’s your favorite part of St. Patrick’s Day on Tallav?

Adrianna: Shane and I rode horseback to a meadow on Gleann Milis, his family estate. It has a huge patch of Shamrocks. We took a picnic basket and blankets to snuggle in because it was a bit chilly. We drank hard cider, and I got a wee bit tipsy. That’s my excuse for why we both look rumpled when we returned home.

Sounds special. Thanks for sharing Adrianna. I’ll let you get back to that handsome hero of yours, Shane Tiernan.
