The Sons of Tallav Join the Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Sons of TallavThe Sons of Tallav are joining Jillian Verne and the Masters of the Order in supporting Amber in the walk to end Alzheimer’s. Regular readers know that I am a caretaker for my mother-in-law, so I’ve seen this disease first hand. We’ll be placing my m-i-l in care in the next week. Yes, that’s sad, but inevitable and necessary. She stumbled on the last few steps of the stairs recently and fell. Thank heavens she only wrenched a muscle in her back. She wants to go outside, often when I can’t take her. In an Alzheimer’s unit, she’ll be able to walk in the garden when she feels like it.

The disease is a steady progression of losses, not just of memory but in all areas of life. My m-i-l cannot drive a car. She cannot take a walk by herself. She does not recognize people she hasn’t seen in a long while, but when told who they are, she cries because she’s so happy to see them. She washes dishes by wiping them with her napkin and then putting them away. She has lost so much weight she’s skin and bones, but she believes she is fat and will pound on her non-existent stomach to prove it.

Barring a miracle, the cure will come too late for her. But for the many others whom this disease will destroy in the future, there is hope that the cure will be found, and they will be saved from the gradual debility of memory loss and brain dysfunction. Unfortunately, many forms of this disease are hereditary. The sooner we find prevention methods and/or cures the better for all of us! This year, Mom and I are both volunteering, walking, and we were asked to tell our care giving story on stage. Your support would mean the world to us!

Please help us by making a tax-deductible donation. You can visit my personal fundraising page to make a secure credit card donation online or download and print the paper form on my page to mail in with a check. All donations benefit the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association — and every dollar makes a difference in this fight. Thanks in advance for your support! Love, Amber.”
