The Designer for Easter Parade – Fashion Maven A to Z

When one thinks of couture gowns in today’s world, the red carpet comes to mind. Who are you wearing? Has been the question, although of late it’s fallen into disrepute as sexist. Well! Your Fashion Maven for one wants to know who designed the fabulous gowns the stars are wearing. It is entirely female to revel in beautiful clothing. But I digress.

What do Ginger Rogers, Loretta Young, Lana Turner, Carole Lombard, Ingrid Bergman, Claudette Colbert, Marlene Dietrich, Merle Oberon, Katherine Hepburn, Rosalind Russell, Rita Hayworth, Lucille Ball, and Doris Day all have in common besides being stars of the silver screen? They have all worn clothes designed by Irene, a costume designer during the Golden Age of movies.

Irene designed the women’s costumes in Easter Parade.

She opened her own house after leaving MGM in 1949.

Irene returned to Hollywood to dress Doris Day in Midnight Lace and Lover Come Back in the early 1960’s.

For those who do not know who the Fashion Maven speaks of when she mentions the revered name of Selina Shirley. She is the latest bright star at the House of Shirley established long ago, far in the future on the Federation planet, Tallav. Her love story has been published in Maon: Marshal of Tallav.
